the artists
Richard & Samantha Crowe are an artist-writer couple and collaborative team. They have been writing and painting together for 35 years. They have collaborated on a great many creative projects and are in the process of writing a children’s book series together.
They are obsessed with landscapes in different parts of the world and the stories belonging to those landscapes.
Their collaborative journey started in South Africa, where they were both opponents of the Apartheid regime.
Shared political beliefs drew them together, as well as a love of the landscape and people of Africa.
In the 1980’s they set up the Dionysos Art Centre, offering garden classes in nature drawing.
A shared love of nature has always been at the core of their collaborative work.
In the 1990’s, they made their home in the West of Ireland.
Here, they set up a co-operative craft-shop and gallery. Creative Force, Studio Crafts was located in the vibrant and colourful streets of Galway City’s bohemian Spanish Quarter.
They held regular exhibitions here and created a range of gifts inspired by the landscape and mythology of Ireland. This influence has permeated their work ever since.
In London they ran a research consultancy, which grew out of a shared love of history and historical research.
They migrated towards the outer boroughs of London where they could have access to woodland and green spaces.
Here, they embraced a love of gardening and woodwork, building organic benches and outdoor structures for a community garden.
In 2018, they moved to Wales to work on writing projects inspired by Welsh history and the Welsh landscape.
They live in the South Wales valleys where small pockets of ancient temperate rainforest and panoramic seascapes have become their inspiration.
Richard & Samantha are both passionate nature lovers and advocates for Nature Conservation and the Environment.
